Jan and VĂ­tor are working on bringing SWI-Prolog and YAP closer together so maybe one day common code could be used. Some other Prolog compilers provide similar mechanisms for writing Prolog shell scripts. GNU Prolog allows you to define a new interactive interpreter (see the "configs/NOTES.txt" file for an example). There is no standard solution here.

This is interesting. A way of creating an executable that works for all compilers that support it would be a very good development.
Generating standalone binary executables is not only Prolog compiler specific but also operating-system specific. When supported, is usually not a trivial task. It would be a good development, I agree, but given the current status of Prolog standardization is not feasible. Nevertheless, if anyone wants to try it for a small number of combinations of Prolog compilers and operating-systems, contributions are welcome.
